Access to care describes whether patients can obtain appropriate services when and where they need them. It includes appointment availability, geographic reach, insurance acceptance, language access, digital access, referral pathways, transportation, and affordability. For healthcare leaders, access is both a mission issue and an operating metric because poor access pushes demand into emergency departments and weakens patient loyalty.
